Established by a United Nations resolution in 1981, the International Day of Peace was first celebrated September 1982. This annual date is meant to mark global progress toward building cultures of peace, and serve as a reminder of our permanent commitment to peace, above all interests and differences of any kind.

The SMC is a 3-week learning opportunity focused on UN Integrated Peace Missions and designed to enhance the operational effectiveness of mission planning. Participants (civilian, military and police) will be introduced to the processes of providing strategic and operational advice in the development phase of a contemporary UN peace operation.
