In Darfur, women and girls face the threat of sexual violence and abuse on a daily basis. Rape has become a weapon of war and is quickly becoming a fact of life for the thousands of victims in this war-torn region.

The situation appears bleak, but there is hope.

The Pearson Peacekeeping Centre (PPC) has developed a training program to enhance the operational effectiveness of African police and military personnel selected for the United Nations/African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).

The PPC prepared a course to address sexual abuse and violence committed against women and children. This course specifically focuses on prevention, investigation, interviewing, evidence gathering and reporting of rapes and other forms of sexual and gender-based violence.

This approximately eight-minute video highlights the structure of the course and the impact it has had on the 150 participants from 19 different countries deployed in Darfur.
